Gamma-Ray Space Telescope (Fermi)
This NASA Fermi mission formerly named GLAST will detect thousands of gamma ray sources, most of which will be supermassive black holes in distance galaxies. Fermi will help scientists understand particle acceleration, active galactic nuclei, pulsars and supernovae remnants. The spacecraft consists of a Large Area Telescope (LAT) and a Gamma Burst Monitor (GBM). This is an international collaboration involving NASA, Department of Energy, academic institutions, France, Germany, Italy ,Sweden and Japan.
